The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Technology (INSAIT) has been launched today in Sofia. INSAIT is a new Bulgarian Institute established in partnership with ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne.

Yesterday was marked by a historic event – the opening of the new IT Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technologies. The investment is worth nearly 170 million leva over a period of ten years, and the ambition is for Bulgaria to become a magnet for top talent and to create an economy based on high value-added products and intellectual property.

Today, the first AI institute in SEE opens doors in Sofia to grow the Bulgarian scientific community, attract, develop, and retain local and international research talent, as well as accelerate the economic and social innovation impact in the region. The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) is created in partnership with ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, two of the world’s leading technology universities, and is structured as a special unit of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

Bulgaria can rarely be called a pioneer in any field in the European Union. But on April 11, it will launch an organization that could become a global academic engine for innovation – a high-tech institute in Sofia whose ambition is not to be just a regional leader, but to rival institutes such as MIT in the US or Technion in Israel.
