Prof. Adi Shamir Delivers Captivating Lecture at Sofia University as Part of INSAIT Tech Series

This Monday, Sofia University hosted one of the most anticipated events of the year as part of the INSAIT Tech Series: a public lecture by Prof. Adi Shamir, world-renowned cryptographer and co-inventor of the RSA algorithm. His talk, titled “The Insecurity of Machine Learning,” attracted an audience of over 400 attendees who filled Hall 65 to capacity.
Prof. Shamir captivated the audience with a deep dive into the vulnerabilities of modern AI systems, explaining how deep neural networks can be surprisingly easy to manipulate—an issue rooted not in poor engineering, but in the nature of high-dimensional geometry itself. The lecture also explored real-world examples of AI attacks, including how facial recognition systems can be compromised by altering only a small fraction of their weights.
The event concluded with a lively and thought-provoking discussion, where students, researchers, and tech professionals engaged Prof. Shamir with challenging questions and forward-thinking perspectives. The enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity in the room were a testament to the growing interest in the intersection of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
