INSAIT positions Bulgaria amongst the world leaders in algorithms at the leading research conference

INSAIT has five research papers accepted to the 2026 edition of the ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC), widely regarded as the leading global conference in theoretical computer science and ranked #1 in the area by Google Scholar.
With five accepted papers, INSAIT, part of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” stands ahead of institutions such as University of Cambridge and Harvard University, and alongside leading universities including Tsinghua University and a number of top U.S. and European universities.
STOC 2026 will take place in Salt Lake City, USA, from June 22 to June 26. The conference annually convenes leading researchers from leading universities and technology companies worldwide to present fundamental advances in algorithms, complexity theory, cryptography, distributed computing, and related areas that underpin future technologies.
The accepted papers are a result of work done by the INSAIT’s Theory and Algorithms group, led by Dr. Bernhard Haeupler – an MIT PhD, former professor at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, a recipient of an ERC Starting Grant, and a researcher with internationally recognized contributions to algorithms, coding theory, and distributed systems.
