The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT), has officially opened applications for the 2026 edition of its Summer Research Fellowship (SURF) program, inviting outstanding undergraduate students from around the world to take part in cutting-edge AI and computing research in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Now in its fourth edition, SURF has rapidly gained international recognition. In its first three years, the program attracted outstanding young researchers in AI and computer science from over 150 countries!
SURF offers selected students the opportunity to participate in intensive research on some of the most advanced and impactful topics in AI and computer science. Interns work under the guidance of INSAIT faculty and researchers, receiving mentorship from internationally recognized scientists and contributing to ongoing research projects.
The program provides strong financial and logistical support to its participants. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of 1500 EUR, while INSAIT covers round-trip transportation to Sofia and accommodation. The institute also assists with visa and document processing and organizes social activities, trips, and community events during the internship.
The application deadline for SURF 2026 is 8 March 2026. Highly motivated students with a strong interest in AI and computing research are encouraged to apply.
