INSAIT Hosts Groundbreaking International Symposium on AI for Earth and Space Observation

The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) is proud to announce the inaugural GAIA – Symposium on AI for Earth and Space Observation with Foundation Models (https://gaia.insait.ai/), taking place this summer in Sofia, Bulgaria.
This landmark event will bring together world-renowned experts from leading global institutions to explore how cutting-edge artificial intelligence—especially foundation models—can revolutionize Earth and space observation. The symposium underscores INSAIT’s growing role as a hub for transformative AI research with real-world impact.
Among the distinguished speakers are:
- Prof. Thomas H. Zurbuchen, former NASA Science Director and current professor at ETH Zürich
- Prof. Luc Van Gool, INSAIT faculty and globally recognized leader in AI and computer vision
- Prof. Fahad Khan, professor at MBZUAI and Linköping University
- Dr. Alexandre Lacoste, research scientist at ServiceNow Research
The symposium is the result of an exceptional collaboration between researchers and engineers from institutions such as INSAIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Technische Universität Berlin, Ubotica Technologies, Space42, and BIFOLD – Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data.
The program will spotlight state-of-the-art research in AI for spatial and multimodal data, with a particular focus on foundation models—an area in which INSAIT is a pioneer. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary discussions, foster cross-sector partnerships, and explore the future of AI applications in planetary-scale challenges.
Call for Papers: Researchers are invited to submit papers by June 15, 2025.
