In a new interview with Bulgarian National Radio, Mario Markov, INSAIT doctoral researcher and lead of FireScope AI, discusses how the platform is evolving into a broader tool for long-term wildfire prevention and decision support.
FireScope AI is now available in Bulgarian and 42 additional languages, making wildfire risk information accessible to communities and institutions across Europe and Asia.
One of the platform’s key capabilities is explaining, in human-readable terms, why a particular area is assessed as high-risk. This can help institutions, local authorities, and citizens better understand wildfire risk and make more informed decisions.
Built on publicly available satellite and climate data, including data from Copernicus and NASA, FireScope AI is also attracting growing interest from organizations in Bulgaria and abroad exploring new approaches to wildfire prevention.
Today, the platform is focused primarily on long-term prevention, supporting resource planning, vegetation management, and infrastructure and land-use decisions before a wildfire occurs.
Looking ahead, INSAIT is working toward more dynamic and frequently updated forecasts, with the long-term goal of making wildfire risk assessments more timely, understandable, and actionable.
