

Following the release of our first interpretable, high-resolution wildfire risk map for Europe, FireScope AI is now being extended across a large part of Asia, with localized versions available in the native languages of many countries in the region.
In Asia, FireScope demonstrates a 70% probability of assigning higher long-term risk to locations where wildfires occur than to locations where they do not. This significantly outperforms the Fire Weather Index – the current operational standard – which achieves 62% on the same evaluation.
The expansion comes at an important point in the wildfire season. Rising temperatures, increasing vegetation dryness, and evolving climate conditions are contributing to heightened wildfire risk across many regions, placing communities, ecosystems, and critical infrastructure under growing pressure.
The expanded FireScope map provides high-resolution wildfire risk information across a substantially larger and more diverse geographic area. It enables users to examine where wildfires are more likely to occur and where their potential impact may be greatest.
Accessibility is an important part of this effort. FireScope now provides localized explanations in 43 native languages, making advanced wildfire risk information more accessible to local institutions, decision-makers, and communities.
By providing interpretable, location-specific risk information, FireScope can support wildfire prevention and preparedness, land-use planning, climate adaptation, resource allocation, and emergency response.
FireScope AI combines satellite imagery and climate data to generate continuous, high-resolution wildfire risk maps with concise explanations. Its analysis incorporates factors including vegetation density and dryness, drought trends, wind patterns, heat, terrain, and their interactions.
Developed at INSAIT, FireScope is part of our broader effort to advance AI research while developing technologies that can address important challenges facing society. This expansion is another step toward making advanced, interpretable wildfire intelligence available at global scale.
