Deputy Prime Minister Pulev and Minister Vassilev at INSAIT: The institute is a strategic project for Bulgaria

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment, and Industry Mr. Alexander Pulev, Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation Mr. Ivan Vassilev, and Deputy Minister of Economy, Investment, and Industry Ms. Mira Yosifova visited the INSAIT, an institute part of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and spoke with INSAIT’s founder and Scientific Director, Prof. Martin Vechev, and Executive Director, Eng. Borislav Petrov. During the visit, the strategic importance of INSAIT for the new government was emphasized.

“We chose INSAIT for our first official meeting and visit because the Institute is a strategic project for Bulgaria. We have set two ambitious goals. One is the transformation of the country’s economy through high-value-added, innovation-based companies, but also the transformation of the public administration toward the implementation of artificial intelligence and the use of new technologies to facilitate the lives of citizens and businesses,” commented Minister Vassilev.

During the meeting, the key role of INSAIT in the policies of both ministries was emphasized. The discussion also covered the next stages of the Institute’s development and the government’s plans to expand public investment in it. Special attention was given to strengthening the strategic partnership with Switzerland and the leading polytechnic universities ETH Zurich and EPFL, in collaboration with which INSAIT was established.

Among the key priorities is the deployment of INSAIT’s sovereign artificial intelligence technologies within the public administration. During the meeting, it was stressed that Bulgaria is increasingly establishing itself as a European leader in this field, and that the process of broad institutional adoption of these technologies should be accelerated. In just four years, INSAIT has established itself as a leading global research center in artificial intelligence and deep technologies. The Institute develops world-class technologies and conducts cutting-edge research in areas such as artificial intelligence, Earth observation, robotics, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. INSAIT maintains international partnerships with some of the world’s most prestigious technology and academic organizations, including Google, Amazon, Netflix, ETH Zurich, EPFL, MIT, and others.
